Discussion with Dominique Petrin about resources and technical aspects of print (using Latex vs. Speedball, using Potato starch glue vs. wheat paste or wallpaper paste, etc.)
Bonnie's tips:
1. Remember to know the materials you are working with and their impact on your surroundings.
2. "You don't have to have a message in your artwork, but it has to be about something."
Project Proposals
Colvin Images inspired by the exploitation of animals - not important that people understand the motivation for making the drawing. Based on euphemisms. Screen Print with Potato Paste. Need to think about maintenance, what happens when it rains? Dominique says: could end up being up for the summer. Water infiltration behind the paper will cause it to unglue - you have to go every week to maintain it. Don't use florescent colours if its up for a month because they fade quickly. Green barn is perfect place to paste - can be cleaned with a pressure washer. If you're making a maquette - test what your image would look like from far.
Agnes Sainte Esther Val-David. Working with patromonial grounds - would like to talk with someone in the field to better understand its context. Would like to show the potential of what the building could be. Would like to have discussions with the community about it. Flyers for outreach? Format is not as important as the process. Would like to make sure the population is invested.
Jodi Would like to do a performance with the school that's showing as well. Has been making a lot of private video pieces - would like to spend two days on the property (val-david). Will need to contact the teachers of the classes that will be showing - will have a form for them to fill out to gauge interest. Hoping for 15 students to participate. What is the end objective? A video piece - children will be depicting different archetypes.
Odessa Would like to work with kites - maybe create kites which can be turned into lanterns - this could allow people to fly the kites or for them to exist as lanterns. May use found materials such as sticks. May weld a metal structure to hold the kites and turn them into lanterns. Light source? LEDs - faux candles
Phillip Will create work that relates to his practice as well as impression nordiques.
Megan Potentially a public installation in a bus stop relating to the winter landscape or post cards based on another project that has to do with the idealized Canadian landscape. Could be distributed a the tourist info centre.
