Course Description: An advanced studio and practical hands-on course where students will participate in research and print production that will result in exhibition and installation opportunities planned at the end of the semester.

Students will gain first hand experience with the various tasks necessary in the creation of gallery exhibitions and site specific installations as well as participatory community-engaged arts practices, along with critical analysis in the examination of aesthetic, practical and social concerns.Students will gain skills and knowledge in planning, maquettes, obtaining permits, artists’ statements, grant writing, installation, collaboration, documentation and final reports. Students will have the opportunity to work across print disciplines and with extended media and to collaborate in the creation of innovative, experimental work designed according to their interests and established technical proficiency. There will be personal presentations and technical discussions on practical aspects of exhibition planning by engaged Montréal artists.

Course Requirements: Students are expected to complete work for the Val-David exhibition in keeping with the established course objectives of obtaining skills and experience in exhibition planning through critical analysis of contemporary print practice and site specific installations. The considered amount of work is no less than the equivalent amount of a 3 project semester.

Students are responsible for tasks necessary in developing the exhibition and are expected to be available for the montage as well as the take down of their work in the show. Throughout the semester there will be ongoing updates from production and task teams.

Attendance and class participation is critical as well as a positive and collaborative spirit in developing and participating in this event.

The content and overall design of exhibition installations and actions will be decided upon and developed through dialogue and consensus,  within the context of the class.


  • Your written project proposal is due on Feb. 3rd.
  • Class Critique of in progress work on March 8th and April 14
  • Final draft and presentation of your artist statement due April 7th
  • Individual critiques are on April 21st
  • After the 18th the wood shop project room may be used for additional time outside of the class room to further develop your installation.
